The Bicycle Coalition of Maine runs 4 events every year to promote bicycling, to get more people on bikes and to support our programs.
We run 2 Great Maine Bike Swaps each spring in Orono and Portland. The public is invited to buy bikes, sell them or do both. The bike swap events offer a great way to find affordable bicycles. You can choose from hundreds of road bikes, hybrids, mountain bikes, kids’ bikes and all kinds of other bicycles. You also can turn your unused bikes into cash. Knowledgeable volunteers will help you with bike pricing and fit. A small commission on sales supports the Bicycle Coalition’s work to improve Maine cycling. Sign up to volunteer at the Portland Swap and/or the Orono Swap.
The Bicycle Coalition’s Women’s Ride in Freeport begins with a morning of bicycling in a friendly, supportive atmosphere geared toward girls and women of all ages and abilities. The four routes (five to 50 miles) follow quiet roads, offering beautiful views of the Maine coast and countryside.
At the ride’s conclusion, you can get a free massage, participate in yoga and join a party at Gritty’s Freeport with free food and great door prizes. Register and sign up to volunteer.
The Maine Lobster Ride & Roll offers Maine’s most scenic bike ride along winding country lanes and the breathtaking rocky coast near Rockland and Camden. The ride features four distances, from a family-friendly 16 miles to a route that has been rated by “Outdoor Magazine” as one of the top centuries in the country. All routes pass by lakes, lighthouses and lobster boats.
Upon your return, enjoy a fresh Maine lobster roll lunch, with vegetarian and tuna options available and watch live footage of the Tour de France on a big screen. The ride benefits the Bicycle Coalition’s work for better bicycling in Maine. Register and sign up to volunteer.
