Bethel Time Trial - August 19, 2007

Race Conditions: Sunny, light breeze and temperature near 60 degrees.

A total of 71 racers turned out on Sunday for the 6th Bethel Time Trial sponsored by the Sudbury Inn and Chase Cyclery. Perfectly clear skies, and cool temperatures made it a truly fantastic day to race. Ron Bourgoin of Windham won the race (with just three seconds over Ryan MacDonald), by averaging nearly 27mph with a winning time of 28 minutes 57 seconds. Erin Brennan was the top female racer with a winning time of 33:33 averaging over 23mph. Local cyclist Jeff Hershberger of Greenwood made a very impressive "First Timer" finish time of 35:09. Congratulations to the 13 racers racing their first time trial. The other remarkable feature of this year's race was the great turn out of 11 young adults (under 18) who all show promise! On the other end of the scale, our superb senior cyclists Dave Hatch and George Walsh both raced at a very healthy 85 years of age!

And our volunteers were just a fabulous crew! Thanks so much to Nancy Whilte, Becky Secrest, tish carr, Dale Gilmour, Todd Gilmour, Terri Mills, Merle Ring, Bill Olsen Jim Colson-Hendrick, and Tina Madore. Thanks to the American Legion Post 81 for the use of their parking area, and all the good folks in the Bethel area who kindly shared their community with us. Huge thanks to the town of Bethel and MaineDOT for repaving part of Route 35 which allowed us to keep the original race route. Finally thanks to the Bethel TT Sponsor, the Sudbury Inn and race series sponsor Aegis Bicycles. Hope you all had as much fun as we did.
