Rodeo & Instructor Webinars – These 1 hour online trainings are offered FREE of charge several times per year.

Traffic Skills 101 – Learn how to ride in traffic, hone in on some specific information and techniques, and refresh your knowledge as a skilled rider.  This course is offered for FREE.

League Cycling Instructor (LCI) – The LCI training seminar focuses on teaching and demonstration techniques used with future students both on the road and in the classroom.

We’ll review the basics for teaching students how to walk safely and how to drive their bicycles safely. The course will give you the tools to help your friends, family, students, co-workers, and community ride and walk more safely. This Instructor Training webinar will cover:

  • The Bicycle Coalition of Maine’s safety presentation, which is delivered to over 10,000 Maine students annually.
  • A brief background of why teaching safe walking and bicycling is important.
  • Guidance and tips for presenting the materials to others.
  • How to differentiate the course, which is aligned for grades 3-6, but easily adaptable for older and younger audiences.

Webinar: How to Conduct a Bike Rodeo

  • Bike safety rodeos are popular community events that actually get kids riding and they are a great complement to other Bike/Ped Safety Education Programs.
  • In this webinar you will learn how to coordinate a bicycle rodeo event, including info on who and what you’ll need, how to set up the event stations and how to use a line chalker to draw out a traffic pattern course on which kids can practice the basics of vehicular “driving”.

Become a League Cycling Instructor! – Portland
Friday-Sunday, May 18-20
$350 (scholarships available)

  • The BCM is coordinating the League of American Bicyclists (LAB) “League Cycling Instructor” (LCI). The LCI certification is nationally recognized and prepares a person to teach Safe Cycling classes to children and adults. LCI candidates must have already completed Traffic Skills 101 before they attend the LCI seminar.
  • Certified instructors are active within the bicycling community, are covered by the LAB liability insurance, and are qualified to contract with the Bicycle Coalition of Maine for bike/ped safety instructor work at a rate of $30/hour.
