Police Training "Bicycle Safety and the Law"

Under contract from the Maine Department of Transportation, the Bicycle Coalition of Maine offers Bicycle Safety and the Law trainings across Maine. The fast-paced 4-hour workshop, catering to the needs of police, covers:

  • Review of Maine law as it pertains to bicycling including recent changes in the statutes
  • Helmet use and fit and Maine law
  • Rules of the Road for both bicyclists and motorists to Share the Road
  • Child development relative to bicycling and safety
  • Bike-specific issues in accident reporting and reconstruction
  • Review of resources, materials, and curricula

The course is FREE, including handouts, and resources. Police departments around the state in key service centers are host workshops but the training is open to all police departments and county sheriffs.
