Community Spokes Webinar – How Biking and Walking Benefit Maine’s Economy

December 7, 2016 @ 8:00 am - 9:00 am

Proactively investing in biking and walking programs, policies, and infrastructure can have positive impacts on the economy. In this webinar, we will outline how three distinct areas of development– tourism, village center infrastructure, and trails– can help Maine’s economy grow. We will hear from the Bicycle Coalition of Maine’s Executive Director, Nancy Grant, who will share the economic impacts that have been realized through the annual BikeMaine bicycle tourism event. Dean Ledbetter, Senior Planning Engineer from North Carolina Department of Transportation, will provide a case study for how a Complete Streets project resulted in positive economic impacts for a small town in North Carolina that shows how we can do the same here in Maine. Dave Cota, Town Manager for Carrabassett Valley, will discuss how the Trail Development Program and Sugarloaf Mountain Bike Festival have, and continue to, benefit his region’s economy to provide a case study to inspire more of this kind of work around the state.
