The Maine Bike Rally and the League of American Bicyclists National Rally in Fryeburg, Maine concluded their successful 3-day festivities with the 2008 Fryeburg Time Trial on July 13th, sponsored by Green Thumb Farms and Subway. The Fryeburg Time Trial was #7 of a competitive series presented by Peak Performance Multi-sport and Aegis Racing Bikes and hosted by the Bicycle Coalition of Maine. The Maine Rally and the Fryeburg Time Trial drew record attendance, surpassing all expectations, finishing the weekend with cycling enthusiasts praising the Western Maine-Mount Washington Valley area for providing bicycling activities for all biking categories and fitness levels in a family-friendly atmosphere.

The weather on race morning was a comfortable sunny low 70 degrees in moderate humidity levels and a light southwest wind. As 72 racers embarked on the 18.3 mile primarily flat course the temperatures climbed into the 80's and the southwest wind picked up and proved challenging for the second half of the course.

John Meerse of Portland, remained true to form as he covered the course in 39 minutes, 33 seconds averaging 27.8 mph. Erin Brennan was the fastest female finishing in 45 minutes, 2 seconds with an average speed of 24.4 mph. Both overall winners were repeat winners from the last series time trial in Hinckley; however, John had a close rival as Patrick Ruane finished second trailing John in just 8 seconds. The second overall female was Lynda Colson-Hendrick with a finishing time of 46 minutes, 55 seconds.

Thanks to our title sponsors Green Thumb Farms and Subway, and especially for the many staff members of Green Thumb Farms for staffing the course to ensure safety and racing fun for all the participants. Further thanks goes to: Betsy & Tevin Moody, Bob Mallon for racer needs and parking; Becky Seacrest, Bill & Nancy White registration and timing; Don, Brenda, & Betsy Thibodeau, Kathy Foertsch, Steve Sarfirks, Diane Hickling, Norm Blais, Torey McPherson, Megan Patterson for course marshals.
