2007 Hinckley Time Trial Wrapup
Hinckley, Maine

Aegis Race SeriesSkowhegan Saving BankSappi

The Skowhegan Savings Bank / Sappi Time Trial in Hinckley was a great success. The Sunday, July 1st event brought out 50 racers (from all parts of Maine and four other states), a dozen volunteers and many more spectators. With partly cloudy skies, cool temperatures in the upper 50s to the mid 60’s with a decent wind of 10-15 mph from the North, which made for a sweet ride back. The 12 mile course enjoys remarkably flat stretches along the Kennebec River with only a few small hills giving a total of 150 feet of climbing out and back.

Stanley McArthur of Bangor had a winning time of 28 minutes 14 seconds (an average speed of over 25mph!). With five more competitors within 30 seconds of Stan, the competition was blazing! In fact Patrick Barter of Allston, Massachusetts was just two seconds behind him and Dan Hicky of Lincolnville was just 6 seconds behind Patrick. Carol Meader of Raymond was the winning female with a time of 32:32 (averaging over 22mph). A great first time trial by 4 “first timers” including Richard Evans from Camden got across the finish line in 33:09 and David Johnson of Dover Foxcroft who was just behind him at 33:57. Most special however, was the appearance and participation of our two most senior racers. Dave Hatch of Damariscotta and George Walsh of Jay who both are 85 years old – an inspiration to us all! Congratulations to all who raced!

Thanks to our title sponsors Skowhegan Savings Bank and Sappi Fine Paper for again underwriting this fun, all inclusive, yet wonderfully competitive event. This event would not be possible with out the excellent volunteer support from Jim and Andrea Mathieu, Greg Dore, Matt Cote, Tina Quinn, Larry DeMerchant, Jason Lightbody, Alan & Gayle Cunningham, Lotte Schlegel, and Tracy Hetzer. Thank you ALL for another wonderful race!
