How to Make Your Neighborhood Safer

There is probably room for your community to improve safety for biking and walking. Kids and parents can work with their schools, local groups, and local agencies to improve bicycling and walking in several ways:

spacerdotDo an inventory of biking and walking routes to school
dotReview the "Walkability Checklist" on primary routes [on the NHTSA web site]
dotPromote a Bicycle Safety Education Program in your school
dotPromote practical and attractive bike parking at the school
dotBe sure you and your neighbors drive safely (see Rules for Motorists*)
