On my “Top-ten-bike-rides-of-all-time” list...memory of the ride will be a haven to which I return during the cold winter months. I look forward to next year’s Lobster Ride.”
- Peter Rubinstein, first time Lobster Rider in 2005

Each summer, the Bicycle Coalition of Maine hosts the Maine Lobster Ride & Roll, Maine’s most scenic bike rides along winding country lanes and the breathtaking rockbound coast in gorgeous Midcoast Maine [view photos]. The ride features four marked routes from 16-100 miles, with fantastic ocean views, fresh ocean air, maps, support services, rest stops with food and water, and a fresh Maine lobster roll dinner. Lobster Riders also get collectable Lobster Ride socks! According to one regular Lobster Rider with a GPS unit, the 50-mile route has a little over 2,000 feet of climbing while the full 100-mile route has about 5,250 feet of climbing.

You might even see a lobster pot, buoy, boat or even a real lobster (lobster sightings not guaranteed but we have a very high success rate!) and Maine's own world-famous Lobster Bike will be there! This fun event benefits the BCM's important education and advocacy work for better bicycling in Maine.

INTERESTED IN VOLUNTEERING?
Volunteering at the Maine Lobster Ride and Roll is just as much fun as riding in it. Many nonriders make this ride the success that it is, from greeting folks at registration to staffing a rest stop to cheering riders in. It's all rewarding and it's a great chance to meet other volunteers and be part of the FUNdraising effort. You also get food (including a fresh Lobster Roll) and a wicked nice T-shirt (only for volunteers!) For more information, call Maggie Warren at 622-3973 or email her at maggie_warren@verizon.net. THANKS!

Why You Should Pre-Register for the Maine Lobster Ride & Roll:

  • You are more likely to do this great ride (be honest -- you are less like to whimp out with excuses like "oh I should watch the grass grow a bit" when you've got some money invested).
  • You speed up your check in at the event
  • You help us prepare for enough volunteers and supplies because you give us a more accurate prediction of how many to expect when we have your early registration
  • It is a fundraiser for the Bicycle Coalition of Maine after all -- a worthy cause deserving your donation, even if for some reason you do have to watch your grass grow ;-)
