Planning to do the Lobster Ride?
Additional info for you!
We would like to relay some information to you now to help you know what to expect and to help you prepare for a day of personal fun and success.
Ride Registration
We always encourage pre-registration to help us prepare for everyone coming and to make check in as quick as possible. Registration takes less than a minute for nearly all registrants. Preregister, and you can get checked in even quicker. That being said, you are most welcome to sign up the morning of the ride. Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your ride start time so you can get checked in and get ready for your ride (Ride Schedule is listed below).
What to Bring
In addition to the obvious things like your bike, bike clothing, helmet, water bottles, energy bars, and sunglasses, we encourage you to also bring:
- Sunscreen
- Energy bars
- Towel & toiletries for your shower after the ride
- Your funkiest Hawaiian shirt with a lobster motif (or other lobster accessories)
- Your family and friends to ride with you!
- Your checkbook as there will be several cool BCM goodies for sale including the BCM's beautiful new "Lobsters & Lighthouse" Jersey available with a $75 donation
- An appetite for a great ride, fun, and delicious food!
What NOT to Bring
- Don't bother to pack your socks because first thing Saturday morning you will have a brand new beautiful pair of Lobster Socks!
- Headphones of any sort should never be worn while bicycling as it blocks your ability to hear approaching cars, other bicyclists, etc.
- Whoopie Cushions: while some folks think they give a bit of extra cushion for rear ends, they have a way of dampening appetites while folks are enjoying their delicious lobster rolls and other yummy food
- Rain: wherever you are coming from, you can leave the rain clouds at home.
Weather
The Lobster Ride rolls forward rain or shine. We encourage you to be prepared for whatever weather Maine serves up.

We'll hope to see you in Rockland at the Maine Lobster Ride & Roll!
Directions
to Rockland District High School, 400 Broadway, Rockland
From the SOUTH: Traveling on Route 1, enter Rockland, turn left onto Route 1A (Broadway). Go 1-mile and the Rockland District High School will be on your left.
From the WEST: Traveling on Route 17, enter Rockland. At the flashing yellow light, bear right onto North Main Street. At the next traffic light (one block) turn right on to Route 1 A (Broadway) and the Rockland District High School will be immediately to your right.
From the NORTH: Traveling on Route 1, enter Rockland, turn right on Rte 1A (at McDonald's) and continue through the blinking light and around the 90 degree left turn on 1A; proceed straight through the next traffic light, the Rockland District High School will be immediately to your right.
Parking
Registrations are up by 20% this year and we are well prepared for a great turn out. In the event that we fill the parking area at the Rockland High School we have two satellite parking areas near by – the J.C. Penny lot about a block and a half away and the Middle School about a quarter mile away. Please allow yourself a little extra time to arrive, park, register, and get set up. We also encourage you to carpool to help reduce the number of parking spaces needed.
Attention Century Riders!
The Lobster Ride provides you with lots of flexibility and options making it ideal if this is your first century, and all the more comfortable if it is your 100th. The first 50 miles of the Lobster Ride takes you North to Belmont (first rest stop at 27 miles) before looping back to the Rockland High School (rest stop at 50 miles). This gives you a chance to drop off or pick up gear or supplies half way through your century.
In respect of our volunteers' time and the limited availability of the Rockland High School, we have some cutoff times we want you to know. You should have finished your first 50 miles and be back on the road tackling your second 50 miles by 1pm. If you have not completed the first 50 miles and you are not ready to start the 2nd half of the century by 1:00 pm, we will suggest you shorten your ride and just do the 29-mile loop (for a 79-mile total) or some variation suited to your energy level. The rest stop at Marshal Point Lighthouse (mile 79 in the 100 route) will be open until 3:00 pm. The last rest stop at South Thomaston (mile 95) will be open until 4:30 pm. The Rockland High School is open until 6:00pm (though we will begin breaking down earlier). If you are not going to be back at the Rockland High School by then, our SAG drivers will offer you a ride. You are welcome to continue at your own pace, but please understand we cannot provide services and support after 5:00 pm.
