2007 BikeMaine Event Calendar Now Available for Free
Augusta, Maine –– The Bicycle Coalition of Maine (BCM) has produced a free
calendar listing bike events in Maine during 2007. The BikeMaine Event Calendar
includes 150 special events, 80 weekly rides throughout the state and a listing of
Maine bike clubs, organizations and bicycle shops.
The calendar is available at bicycle shops, sports stores, by calling the BCM office
(623-4511) or by writing info@BikeMaine.org. Event listings also may be found at BCM’s website: www.BikeMaine.org.
“Whatever your interest or fitness level, the calendar has several rides for you,”
said Jeffrey Miller, BCM’s executive director.
Rides vary in length from a five-mile Women’s Ride for Heart Health to the 180-
mile Trek Across Maine. The calendar includes both races and relaxed fun rides.
Some cater to road bikes, others to mountain bikes.
“The rides featured in the ‘2007 BikeMaine Event Calendar’ offer a great way to
explore our beautiful state,” said Miller. Rides cover every part of Maine, from
York Beach to the Golden Road near Millinocket, a tour of Bailey Island in Casco
Bay and the Spud Cycle Classic in Fort Fairfield.
Many of the rides support local charities. Several have themes, such as the Maine
Lobster Ride & Roll in Rockland (July 21), the Strawberry Festival Criterium in
Farmington (July 28) , the Tour de Farms in Wiscasset (August 19) and the
Haunted Halloween Mountain Biking Spook Festival (October 19-21).
Advocating bicycling safety, education and access in Maine since 1992, the Bicycle
Coalition of Maine is working to make Maine accessible and safe for all residents
and visitors so they may comfortably and responsibly bicycle. The BCM also
promotes bicycling for transportation, health, recreation and fun to enhance our
communities, environment and economy.
