Bicycle Safety Teacher Training Course Offered in Bangor

Augusta, Maine - The Bicycle Coalition of Maine, in cooperation with the Maine Department of Transportation, will offer a free, one-day course on Thursday, August 23 at 8 a.m. in Bangor to train teachers, police, medical professionals, health educators and volunteers how to most effectively teach bike safety in schools. The eight-hour course qualifies for one CEU credit. It will cover:

  • Child development and bicycling
  • Helmet fitting and use
  • Dressing for safety
  • Bicycle equipment safety check
  • Rules of the road
  • Basic driving skills and safety maneuvers
  • Review of resources and materials
  • Incorporating bicycling into your curriculum program

A portion of the course takes place on bike. Participants must bring a bicycle in good condition and a helmet that fits. Lunch will be provided.
