MAINE BICYCLE RALLY OFFERS WEEKEND OF RIDES

A three-day bicycle rally featuring nearly 30 rides for all levels of cyclists will take place July 6-8 in Yarmouth. The rally will provide a full weekend of entertainment including sunrise, sunset and stargazing night bike rides, a recycle bike art show, bike parade, ice cream social and Maine Bike Expo.

Bicyclists from across Maine, New England, several other states and Canada are expected to attend the annual rally, co-hosted by the Bicycle Coalition of Maine (BCM), the Casco Bay Bicycling Club, Merrymeeting Wheelers and local cyclists.

The rally will feature both off-road and on-road rides ranging in distance from five to 100 miles. Rides will center in Yarmouth but also cover Pownal, Portland, Falmouth and Cumberland. The rally will be based in a new location, at Yarmouth High School.

The weekend price includes camping, food (big breakfasts, picnic lunches and all-you-can-eat dinner), all rides, entertainment and a Maine Bike Rally T-shirt. Prices start at $75 (adult) and $30 (6-15 years old) for BCM or bicycle club members who register by June 20.

The Maine Bike Rally offers bike rides designed to take in the splendor of the host region. In addition to excellent on-road and off-road riding, participants can take part in other activities, including canoeing, hiking, swimming and visiting museums. The annual meeting of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine is held on Saturday night of the rally and awards are given to outstanding volunteers.

The Maine Bike Rally moves its location around the state. Past rallies have taken place in Bath, Bethel and Belfast.
