Bicycle Coalition of Maine Wins National Recognition
Augusta, Maine - The Bicycle Coalition of Maine (BCM) ranked as the country's top state bicycle advocacy organization in a recent report by the Thunderhead Alliance, a national coalition of bicycle and pedestrian advocacy organizations.
Thunderhead's first biennial Benchmarking Report, titled "Bicycling and Walking in the U.S.," cites BCM as the state organization with the most members per capita. BCM's 6,000 members equates to one for every 212 Maine residents. BCM also scored top nationwide for media hits, defined as anytime an organization's name appeared in the media in the previous 12 months.
Overall, BCM ranked as the state organization with the greatest capacity to advocate for bicyclists, according to the Benchmarking Report.
The Thunderhead Alliance report provides a wealth of statistical information about bicycling and walking trends. The full report is available at http://www.thunderheadalliance.org/benchmarking.htm.
Formed in 1992, the Bicycle Coalition of Maine is working to make Maine accessible and safe for all residents and visitors so they may comfortably and responsibly bicycle. The BCM also promotes bicycling for transportation, health, recreation and fun to enhance our communities, environment and economy.
