A new trail with footprints and trail signs was unveiled at the Maine State House on Tuesday, February 27, 2007. The indoor trail led legislators and visitors to the Welcome Center for a press conference in support of a $10 million Trails for a Healthy Maine Bond.

UPDATE: Tracking the Trail Bond's Rise and Demise
More than three years ago, the Bicycle Coalition of Maine joined leading trails advocates to form the Trails for a Healthy Maine Coalition and start promoting the idea of increased funding for trails in Maine. In this legislative update, BCM Executive Director Jeffrey Miller reviews the process to date and summarizes the outcome of efforts to get the bond through the legislature in 2007.

At current funding levels, shared-use trails already on the drawing board and approved by Maine DOT or Maine DOC will take 60 years to complete.
