Our Progress to Date
Here are some highlights of the effort so far:
- March 7, 2006 - Senator Dennis Damon agrees to sponsor the Trails Bond Bill for 2007.
- March 25, 2005 - Transportation Committee voes 10 - 2 in favor of a $5 Million bond for trails.
- March 15, 2005 - 100 Endorsements for the Trails Bond received.
- February 24, 2005 – Hearing before the Joint Appropriations and Financial Affairs and Transportation Committee. Senator Dennis Damon (Hancock County) presented the bill before both committees giving his personal experience how trails can spur economic development. With nearly 20 supporters present, and written testimony submitted by nearly a half dozen more supporters, the Trails for a Healthy Maine got a strong start before legislators dealing with this important bond.
- February 8, 2005 - Trails Bond workshop held at the Statehouse office building.
- January 10, 2005 - Met with Maine DOC Commissioner McGowan
- December 21, 2004 - Met with Governor John Baldacci
- December 16, 2004 - An Act to Authorize a General Fund Bond Issue for Trails for a Healthy Maine submitted by Rep. Sean Faircloth (LR1529, view text)
- November 29, 2004 - Met with Maine DOT Commissioner David Cole
- October 15, 2004 - State Trails Conference - Coalition formed
