Bicycle Coalition of Maine installs traffic-calming infrastructure (via WGME)

PORTLAND (WGME) — The Bicycle Coalition of Maine is working to keep pedestrians and bicyclists safe in South Portland and Millinocket.

The coalition says as part of its “Imagine People Here Program,” they installed traffic-calming infrastructure and worked to increase the visibility of crosswalks.

“These posts are used in roadway installations all over the place and they’re intended to carry a line into the vertical space, so the town can see this is what it would look like if we were to do it,” Jim Tasse of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine said.

The non-profit says the installations are temporary and will be removed around mid-November when the winter weather hits.

In the meantime, the coalition says it will run studies to look at the effectiveness of the new infrastructure.
