Bicyclist Killed on Rte 302 in Windham

(PORTLAND, Maine) Nov 1, 2022 – A person riding a bike on Route 302 in Windham was killed on Monday night.

Adam Willruth, 38, was hit by a Volkswagen Jetta driven by Logan Williams, 20, near the All Town gas station and convenience store. Willruth was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We send our deepest condolences to the victim’s loved ones,” said Bicycle Coalition of Maine Executive Director Jean Sideris. “We remind everyone to watch for people biking or walking and pay extra attention as the days shorten, making it more difficult to see others on the road.”

The police are still investigating the crash, but have said it does not appear that alcohol or speed were factors in the crash. The incident occurred at 6:30p.m. Early reports are that the bicyclist and the motorist were traveling in the same direction.

The BCM urges law enforcement to carefully examine the roadway conditions, bicycle facilities, history of crashes at this location, driver behavior, phone use records, and any additional circumstances that may have been contributing factors.

By the Coalition’s count, this is the second bicyclist killed on Maine roadways in 2022.
