PORTLAND, Maine (WGME) — “Slow down, we walk here.” That’s the message from the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety.
It’s part of a community-driven pedestrian safety campaign which comes as Maine continues to see a growing number of pedestrian deaths and serious crashes.
The campaign focuses on promoting safer driving habits and increasing awareness of walkers in some of Maine’s busiest urban areas, including Portland, Lewiston, and Auburn.
“It serves as a simple reminder that the people crossing the street are our neighbors, friends, and our family,” Director of the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety Lauren Stewart said.
The campaign launched today at Lincoln Park in Portland and will run through the rest of the summer.
