PORTLAND – Police are asking for the public’s help with the investigation into a fatal car accident in Portland Saturday night involving a teenager.
Police said the accident happened at about 8:46 p.m. on Sept. 12 in the area of 512 Warren Ave.
A 13-year-old boy was struck and killed near the Interstate 95 overpass by a 48-year-old Portland man who was driving. Police said the man stopped and cooperated with police. The boy died of his injuries, while two other juveniles who were with him and also struck were taken to Maine Medical Center for “serious but non-life-threatening injuries.”
“The initial investigation appears to indicate the juvenile males entered the roadway abruptly and were then struck by the vehicle,” police said.
The three were part of a group of teens who were walking on the side of the road. None of the other youths were hurt.
As of Saturday night, police had filed no charges in the case, but the investigation is ongoing. Police are asking for anyone who might have video showing the incident, from surveillance cameras or dash cams, to contact police right away at 207-874-8575.
