Dover-Foxcroft – Monson – Dover-Foxcroft Route Description
Day six brings us the return of the cherished BikeMaine loop ride, where we’ll begin and end at the Fairgrounds in Dover-Foxcroft. This challenging route starts southwest along the Piscataquis River with some quick, steep jogs through Sangerville and Guilford, the chickadee and lilac capital of Maine. The roads are peaceful, and pastoral as we zig zag upwards, gaining significant elevation as we turn northwest toward Monson and Lake Hebron, an official Appalachian Trail Community. The road narrows and the elevation levels off as riders continue east on a spur until the road ends at the shores of Sebec Lake in Peaks-Kenny State Park. Soak in the view before heading south as we climb back to Dover-Foxcroft. It turns out that yes, you can go uphill both ways. After another night at the Piscataquis Valley Fairgrounds, we will head back to where it all started, in Old Town.
Mileage: 57.7 // Elevation Gain: 3,918 ft.
