Southern Maine Cycle Fest

July 11, 2015 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

$10

The Southern Maine Cycle Fest is the descendant of the New England Human Powered Vehicle Rally, held in various New England locations since 2004.
The purpose of this event is to celebrate cycles as the fantastic inventions that they are! Previous Rallies have featured a wide variety of recumbents, velomobiles (enclosed recumbent cycles), electric assisted bicycles (including solar!), homebrewed and store-bought versions of each of these, and more.
Human Powered Vehicle Swap: If you have a recumbent, velomobile, load carrier, or other human powered vehicle you’d like to sell, or are looking to purchase one, this is an opportunity to get a new bike, or sell your old one!
For exhibitors and sellers, ride participants and those planning to camp, there will be a minimal charge of $10.00 to cover insurance. The event is free to spectators and buyers.
Agenda Saturday, July 12, 2014
8:00-10:30: Morning Expo(show and tell)
10:30-2:00: Ride, with stop to purchase lunch
2:00 – 5:00: Afternoon Expo

Expo portions of the event are free to spectators and consists of show and tell presentations and the chance to interact one-on-one with the owners. Test rides may be had at the discretion of the owners.
The Expo sessions will offer newbies and old hands alike the opportunity to experience the diversity of human powered vehicles. This is the perfect chance to interact with owners, ask them questions about their ride and check out the machines first hand. All sorts of rigs are expected to be there; everything from recumbents of various types to fully enclosed velomobiles to load carrying machines to electric assisted cycles.
The ride will be approximately 30 miles at a moderate pace through the beautifully scenic coastal Kennebunk area.
ALL TYPES OF CYCLES ARE WELCOME. There are no restrictions on the types of cycles that may participate in the rally – except that they must have at least partially human (pedal) powered drive mechanisms and must be roadworthy to participate in the on-road ride. All riding positions – recumbent, upright, supine, standing on your head, any number of wheels, power assist , fairings, home-built or commercially produced, etc., etc. The idea is to SPREAD THE JOY of pedal powered transportation and to further the development and use of  practical cycles and cycling in our part of the world. The stronger the exchange of ideas at the rally, and the greater variety of cycles that show up, the better!
