Maine is famous for it’s biking. Maine was ranked the 2nd most bike friendly state in the country by the League of American Bicyclists in May 2011. You’ll find quiet roads, scenic routes, and friendly Mainers eager to share their favorite cycling routes.

Explore Maine by Bike provides 33 loop rides in all parts of the state, which were selected by local bicyclists, utilize scenic, low-traffic roads and have detailed route descriptions. The East Coast Greenway (ECG) is nation’s most ambitious long-distance trail. The state of Maine has approximately 500 miles of ECG and is one of the most popular destinations in our Maine to Florida trail network. To see the route, visit the new online Trip Planner at map.greenway.org.

On any given weekend from May through October, there are great bike events to choose from. Most events incorporate spectacular routes, picked by local cyclists. Some of the events share their routes before and/or after their event and provide downloadable maps.

The Maine Bike Rally is a 3-day event that rotates around Maine towns, features on-road and off-road rides and over 30 rides from 5 to 100 miles.

Most Maine Bike Clubs offer a variety of rides every week of different distances and for riders of varying fitness levels and experience.
