In 2022, 177 people died in traffic crashes in Maine; this included 20 pedestrians and two cyclists. Nationally, the number of fatal crashes has increased with a 2% increase for pedestrians and an 8% increase in fatal crashes for cyclists. The BCM supports implementing safety legislation throughout Maine, including safe roadway construction, slowing traffic, and safe driving habit enforcement.
