BikeMaine 2020 Cancellation Announcement:
It is with heavy hearts that we announce BikeMaine 2020 will not be taking place this September. After carefully considering all options and contingencies, consulting with leaders in our host communities, and referring to Gov. Janet Mills’ guidelines for hosting events in Maine in the coming months, it is clear that we cannot operate a ride that is up to our standards while also safeguarding the health and wellbeing of our riders, volunteers, staff, and the general population of our host region.
We are pleased, however, to be able to say that the planned Katahdin Frontier route from this year will be rescheduled to BikeMaine 2021, September 11-18, featuring the same host communities and routes. We cannot wait to bring our amazing group of cyclists (hopefully including you!) to one of Maine’s most scenic and rugged regions, provided we can do so in a safe, responsible manner.
If you are registered for BikeMaine 2020, you have three options:
- Roll your registration and extras over to BikeMaine 2021: Katahdin Frontier at no additional cost. We will reach out to you via email later this summer with new waivers to complete.
- Donate all or part of your refund to the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has been making Maine better for biking and walking since 1992. Your donation is tax deductible!
- Receive a refund of your registration and any extras purchased, minus a $150 administrative fee.
Check your email for the “BikeMaine 2020 Rider Registration Options” form to fill out indicating your preferred option. You can also find the form here. Please fill this out by June 30.

Though this is a tough decision for us as a small non-profit organization, we are appreciative of the support we’ve already received from our members during these uncertain times. Although BikeMaine can’t happen this year, the BCM’s work is as important as ever with so many cyclists and walkers on the road. Your donation of any size helps keep our advocacy, education, and outreach activities going throughout this difficult year. Thank you!
We are also planning to celebrate BikeMaine’s 8th year in a new and creative way this summer, so stay tuned for an announcement in the coming weeks regarding alternative opportunities to connect with us on your bike.
From the whole BCM team, we hope you are staying healthy and safe, and we look forward to happier roads ahead.
