BikeMaine was founded in 2012 to promote Maine as a bicycling destination, and to use cycling as an economic development tool for local communities. BikeMaine is hosted by the Bicycle Coalition of Maine, but it is not a fundraiser for the non-profit, as all proceeds from the event are used to support BikeMaine host communities in the form of Community Grants.
Each September, the ride moves to a new area of the state, showcasing the best of Maine from Kittery to Aroostook County. The eight-day event brings together volunteers and riders from across the country, and averages 55 miles of riding per day. The route is fully supported, and in each community, a BikeMaine Village is erected where folks can camp and enjoy activities, music, food, and the company of 450+ cycling enthusiasts. We are lucky to have a dedicated group of volunteers and returning riders each year, and are always pleased to see new faces and hear new stories!
BikeMaine 2021 – Cancelled: We know a lot is going to change between now and September, so although we’ve decided not to move forward with our usual, weeklong cycling celebration, we are planning to host some new events under the “BikeMaine Rides” umbrella that will be smaller, more streamlined, and safer in terms of COVID-19 risks. These events will take us to new and exciting places, hit some familiar BikeMaine notes, and open the BikeMaine experience to a wider audience than ever before. Check out information about these new events in the Events tab above.
