Pedestrian Killed in Aroostook County

(PORTLAND, Maine) July 20, 2023 – A Presque Isle man was struck and killed by a driver while walking on Route 1 in Blaine on Wednesday night. Joshua Morse, 43, died at the scene after being hit by a pickup truck driven by 41 year-old Wayne Field of Blaine.

“We are saddened by this tragic loss of life and send our deepest condolences to the victim’s loved ones,” said Bicycle Coalition of Maine Executive Director Jean Sideris. “This incident underscores the importance of investing in safe places for people to walk, as well as the need for drivers taking extra care to watch for people walking on the roads.”

The crash occurred about 9:44 p.m. and remains under investigation. The BCM urges law enforcement to carefully examine the roadway conditions, pedestrian facilities, history of crashes at this location, driver and pedestrian behavior, phone use records, and any additional circumstances that may have been contributing factors.

This is the fifth pedestrian to have been killed on Maine roads in 2023.
