Bike/Ped Lobby Day

April 11, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

FREE

Join us on Thursday, April 11 at 10:00am at the Statehouse in Augusta to speak with your legislator about the Bicycle Coalition of Maine priority legislation (and anything else you’d like to discuss with them!).

We’ll be meeting in the Welcome Center at the Statehouse at 10:00 am for a short training which will provide info on our bills and tips for talking to legislators.

What we are working on:

LD 470, the “Traffic Safety Education Act” has been recommended as “ought to pass” with a 12-1 vote by the Education and Cultural Affairs Committee, and should be scheduled for votes in the House and Senate soon. This bill, which has been revised, will require a total of four hours of traffic safety education for Maine school students between second and eighth grades, and will help ensure that all kids get basic information about how to be safe on roadways. Learn more about LD 470 here.
LD 1222, the “Act Regarding Electric Bicycles” has just been printed and referred to the Transportation Committee. This bill will clarify the definition of electric assist bicycles (e-bikes), and explain where they can be operated. This legislation is necessary to help protect bike shop owners who sell e-bikes, and consumers who buy them, by establishing the state rules around this new technology. Learn more about LD 1222 here.
