Charles Ewing Memorial Bike Raffle

Before Charles Ewing of Westbrook passed away from cancer in July 2021, he asked that his brand new Priority bicycle be raffled to benefit the Bicycle Coalition of Maine. Bicycling was one of Charles’ passions. From his mid-20s, bicycling was his preferred mode of transportation for local travel. He commuted by bike for almost 40 years in all kinds of weather, and could often be seen cycling the streets of Westbrook and Portland. When asked why he commuted by bike, Charles would smile and respond with: “The four Es: Economy, ecology, enjoyment, and exercise!”

This Priority Continuum Onyx bicycle, size large, has been designed for low maintenance. It has a Gates Carbon belt drive, an Enviolo continuous variable planetary (CVP) shifter, dual piston hydraulic disc brakes, and front and rear dynamo-powered lights which are charged by the wheels.

Tickets are available—in person & cash only—now through Sunday, June 12. Stop by the BCM Office at 38 Diamond Street in Portland to buy a ticket. Tickets will also be available at the Great Maine Bike Swap on June 12 at the USM Gorham campus located at 37 College Avenue.

Tickets are $10 each, three tickets for $20, or five tickets for $35.

(PLEASE NOTE: The winner must be able to pick up the bike in person at the BCM office in Portland.)
