Sappi Fine Paper Hosts 2012 Green Community Day August 11th
Sappi Engages Local Communities on Sustainability

BOSTON, Aug. 8, 2012  — Sappi Fine Paper North America today announced it will be hosting the first annual 2012 Green Community Day, a fun, informative and activity-packed day held on August 11, 2012 at the Sappi Westbrook paper mill. Aimed at educating local residents on how they can positively impact the environment, Sappi’s Green Community Day will invite the community to participate in hands-on activities and interactive displays for the entire family

“As a manufacturing company, it’s important for Sappi to constantly be thinking about ways we can minimize our impact on the environment,” says Laura Thompson, Ph.D., Director of Technical Marketing and Sustainable Development, Sappi Fine Paper North America. “We also recognize that our sphere of influence extends beyond our mill gates – with suppliers and customers across the supply chain – and within our local communities. With this event, and thanks to the collaboration of our co-sponsors, we are hoping to share our knowledge and help educate the community on sustainable practices, large and small, that everyone can implement into their everyday lives.”

Designed to teach and encourage kids from age 4-10 to ride bikes safely, the bike safety rodeo will include a helmet check, a bike mechanical check, and the chance to ride in a closed traffic skills course that teaches the basic rules of the road.  Additional activities like the “slow race”, bike balancing, and straight line riding practice will be included.

The Rodeo will run from 11-2 pm.  It will be cancelled in the event of rain.

Kids interested in participating must bring a parent, (who can sigh a waiver form), a bicycle and a helmet to the event!
