Build Your Own Bike Trailer workshop

Newforest Institute in Brooks, Maine is hosting a Build Your Own Bike Trailer workshop on Sunday, May 20 from 1-5 pm with designer, welder, and builder Marshall Rolerson of Waldo. Participants are invited to bring a pair of salvaged 20- or 16-inch bicycle wheels with good rubber tires that will hold air and join this experimental short-term assembly line production, where they will leave with their own bicycle cargo trailer. A brief presentation exploring human powered cargo transport will launch the workshop.

Workshop leader Marshall Rolerson is a designer, welder, and builder with 10 years experience in manufacturing. He has designed a number of trailers, as well as a recumbent bicycle. He is a founding member of the Belfast Area Transition Initiative and serves on their Transportation Spiral; he is presently spearheading a metalworkers cooperative in Belfast. He commutes from his off-the-grid farm in Waldo to Belfast whenever possible using the bicycle trailer he designed and built 10 years ago.
