Bicycle Parking Design Standards Guide

BCM has developed a municipal bicycle parking design standards guide intended to help Maine municipalities navigate best practices for placement, accessibility, and shapes of bicycle racks on municipal properties. It includes examples of bicycle rack design criteria and standards from the cities of Portland and Bath, ME, the City of Brookline, and the City of Worcester.

The purpose of standards is to ensure that all new bicycle parking is secure, convenient, and accessible for all cycle types while supporting local transportation goals. A standards document could be referenced by site plan review and/or subdivision review ordinances to then become legally enforceable so future development is bicycle-friendly.
