Greenbelt Education Day – Help Promote Safe and Respectful Trail Use!

August 16 @ 10:00 am 2:00 pm

The South Portland Bicycle-Pedestrian Committee is hosting a Share the Path – Greenbelt Education Day, and we are excited to invite you to a collaborative community effort to raise awareness about safe and respectful use of the Greenbelt trail in South Portland. Our goal is to increase awareness of proper trail use and etiquette throughout the Greenbelt. This event will bring together a diverse group of trail users and partners to promote etiquette, safety, and shared enjoyment of this vital public space. We are planning to place temporary “Share the Path” signs at specific locations along the path, particularly in high-speed areas (e.g., near Domino’s and Wainwright). Volunteers wearing bright green vests will be stationed along the trail to promote safety and visibility. Additionally, an information table at Mill Creek Park will engage directly with trail users, covering topics such as trail etiquette, signaling when passing, helmet and seatbelt safety, and tips for sharing the trail with walkers, cyclists, wheelchair users, and others. Whether you join us on the trail or support behind the scenes, your involvement will make a big difference. Come be part of the effort on August 16 to promote etiquette, safety, and mutual respect on the Greenbelt Trail.
