PORTLAND (WGME) — Dozens of kids at the Boys and Girls Club each have a new set of wheels.
Hannaford, the Bicycle Coalition of Maine and Yasso Frozen Yogurt donated more than 100 bikes and helmets to kids at the club.
The Boys and Girls Club says for the kids it serves, getting to ride a bike is an experience that might otherwise be out of reach.
“In this day and age, purchasing a bike, having a bike can be really expensive and being able to have a bike and get places is an opportunity that not all kids, especially a lot of our club members, are able to experience,” Boys and Girls Club of Southern Maine CEO Colleen Cooper said.
Tuesday’s gift is part of a larger campaign to build and donate more than 1,000 bikes to underserved youth nationwide.
